Why southern Peru for solar
Moquegua sits in southern Peru, in the band of high solar irradiance that runs down the Pacific side of the continent. This is one of the strongest solar resources anywhere in the world, and it is the reason the group holds two large-scale solar assets in the department.
For a solar asset, resource quality translates directly into economics. Higher irradiance produces more energy from the same installed capacity and the same capital outlay, which lowers the cost per megawatt-hour delivered over the life of the plant. Where the resource is genuinely exceptional, that advantage compounds across decades of operation.
What bifacial modules change
Aurelion is designed around bifacial modules, panels that generate from both faces, capturing direct irradiance on the front and light reflected from the ground on the back.
The additional yield depends heavily on ground reflectivity and on mounting height and spacing, which is why bifacial technology is best suited to high-irradiance sites with reflective terrain rather than being a universal upgrade. In the right conditions it raises energy output meaningfully for a modest increase in module cost, improving the economics of the same footprint of land and the same grid connection.
Stage and pipeline context
The project is in early development, with Ready-to-Build targeted for 2028. Alongside Solar II, also in Moquegua and targeting RtB in 2029, it forms roughly 600 MW of solar capacity within a portfolio the group frames at more than 870 MW today and above 2 GW across Latin America by 2030.
Who develops and builds it
Development sits with ZFC Energy Group; industrial services, EPC and O&M capability sits with Fitcon Energy inside the same group. ZFC operates as a long-term owner with permanent capital and no fixed exit horizon.
